Harley Finkelstein, President of Shopify

When it comes to modern commerce, few people are closer to the center of gravity than Harley Finkelstein.

A serial entrepreneur, Harley launched his first business at 17, selling T-shirts out of his college dorm room. That early hustle led him to become one of Shopify’s very first merchants, and gave him a front-row seat to what independent brands really need to grow.

Now, as President of Shopify, he helps lead one of the most influential platforms in global eCommerce. And he’s joining the Beanstalk community to share that journey and more firsthand.

Harley has always been a builder. He co-founded Firebelly Tea, a boutique brand born from his love of tea and his instinct to stay close to the product. It’s not just a passion project. It’s a place where he tests new Shopify features in real time, long before they go wide.

Step into his office and you’ll see the same spirit in how he works. Skateboard decks from Shopify-powered brands like Supreme line the walls, reminders of the community he supports.

He still rides, too, sometimes on a motorized board.

Beyond Shopify, Harley is deeply plugged into the startup and creator world. He’s an angel investor, a philanthropist, and a constant advocate for builders. He’s supported hospitals, Jewish organizations, and grassroots efforts, using his platform to back the things he believes in.

He also co-hosts Big Shot, a podcast where he talks with leaders from companies like Carlyle, Activision Blizzard, and The Four Seasons. The conversations are real, sharp, and full of the kinds of lessons you only get by being in it.

Along the way, Harley’s been recognized by Fortune’s 40 Under 40, Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, and named Angel Investor of the Year. He’s also received the Order of Ottawa for his contributions to civic life.

But what makes Harley stand out isn’t just the titles – it’s the range. He’s an operator, a founder, a product tester, a community builder.

And at his core, he’s someone who believes entrepreneurship does more than build businesses. Entrepreneurship shapes culture.

That’s exactly the kind of thinking we’re here for at Beanstalk.
